India’s Best Sports Rehabilitation Centres for Runners

Last Updated:

Sixty-nine thousand runners crossed the TATA Mumbai Marathon start line this January. Most of them trained for months to get there. Statistically, more than a third will be nursing a running injury before this time next year. What almost none of them have is a plan for when that happens.

India now has an estimated 2.5 million people who run at least one organised race annually, up from around 10,000 registered runners in 2004 according to Procam International. The country’s sports medicine market was valued at USD 234.3 million in 2025 and is projected to grow to USD 367.6 million by 2034 (IMARC Group). New hospitals are opening dedicated sports injury departments. Brands are sponsoring recovery zones at race expos. The infrastructure is catching up. But it has not caught up yet, and the gap between the number of injured recreational runners and the number of facilities genuinely equipped to treat them remains real and significant.

The bigger problem is that most runners do not know what to look for. A general physiotherapy clinic and a dedicated sports rehabilitation centre are not the same thing. One will reduce your pain. The other will figure out why you keep getting injured and fix it.

Before you read on

This guide is editorial content, not medical advice. The centres listed have been shortlisted on the basis of published specialist credentials, documented runner focus and publicly available review data. They have not been clinically evaluated by FatMarathoner.com. For any injury, consult a qualified medical professional before beginning rehabilitation. If you are experiencing severe pain, numbness, significant swelling or symptoms that affect daily function, see a doctor first.

Why Recreational Runners Keep Going Back to the Wrong Clinic

Running injuries follow a predictable pattern. Something starts aching during a long run. You rest for a week. The pain fades. You go back to training. Five weeks later you are in a worse state than before. Somewhere in that cycle, you visit a general physio clinic, spend a few sessions on a treatment table, get some ultrasound therapy and a printout of hip strengthening exercises, feel better for a bit and then repeat the whole thing again.

The problem is not physiotherapy. General physiotherapy is excellent at what it was designed for: restoring function after surgery, managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions, reducing pain from repetitive strain. The problem is that running injuries have a specific biomechanical context that most general physiotherapy practices are not equipped to address.

A qualified sports rehabilitation specialist will do something a general physiotherapist almost never does: watch you run. Gait analysis, biomechanical assessment and load management planning are the core tools of sports rehabilitation. A good sports physio will look at your hip stability, foot strike pattern, cadence, single-leg squat mechanics and the way your pelvis moves when you are fatigued. They will distinguish between a training load problem and a structural issue. They will set objective criteria for your return to running rather than sending you back once the pain has gone.

That difference, treating cause rather than symptom, is what separates sports rehabilitation from general physiotherapy. It is also why the right referral matters.

How We Chose These Centres

This is not a sponsored list. No clinic paid for inclusion or reached out for coverage. The shortlist was built using a defined set of criteria applied consistently across Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Our shortlisting criteria
  • Google rating: Minimum 4.5 stars with at least 30 verified reviews as a baseline signal of consistent patient outcomes
  • Named specialist: At least one identifiable sports medicine doctor or sports physiotherapist with verifiable qualifications
  • Documented runner experience: Evidence of treating distance runners, marathon athletes or endurance sport overuse injuries
  • Dedicated focus: Sports medicine or sports physiotherapy as the primary clinical offering, not a general physio practice with the word “sports” in the name
  • Active presence: Functional website or verified Google Business listing with evidence of current operations
  • Relevant service range: Injury assessment and structured rehabilitation, plus at least one of: gait analysis, biomechanical assessment or a defined return-to-sport testing protocol
  • Geographic relevance: Located in a city with an established marathon or distance running community

One practical note: direct verification of live Google Maps ratings was not possible for every clinic through public web research alone. Where ratings could not be independently confirmed, this is flagged in the entry. We recommend checking Google Maps directly before booking any clinic on this list.

The Best Sports Rehabilitation Centres in India for Runners

Mumbai

Mumbai has India’s largest marathon and a growing sports rehabilitation ecosystem. The most significant recent development is a public facility that gives the city a genuinely accessible option alongside its private clinics.

BKT Foundation Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Centre, KEM Hospital, Parel
The most important sports medicine opening in Mumbai in recent years, and it is inside a public hospital. The BKT Foundation invested Rs 20 crore to build a 15,000 sq ft sports injury and rehabilitation centre within KEM Hospital, which opened in December 2025. The facility is led by Dr. Roshan Wade, sports specialist and additional professor at the Department of Orthopaedics. Equipment includes a dedicated gait laboratory, VR-based rehabilitation systems, underwater and zero-gravity treadmills and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The centre is designed to serve over 1,000 athletes annually. For recreational runners in Mumbai without access to premium private care, a facility of this standard inside a BMC-run hospital is significant and worth knowing about. Runner-specific programmes should be confirmed directly with the clinic.
KEM Hospital, Acharya Donde Marg, Parel, Mumbai

Hiranandani Hospital Sports Medicine Clinic, Powai
One of the more established multi-specialist setups for runners in Mumbai. Dr. Niraj Parmar, Senior Sports Physiotherapy Consultant with 15+ years of experience and 700+ athletes treated, explicitly lists marathon runners as a patient group on his personal website. The clinic offers PRP therapy, return-to-sport protocols and rehabilitation for running-related injuries including IT band syndrome and plantar fasciitis. The visiting consultant model means Dr. Parmar may not be available every day; call ahead to confirm schedules and verify the current Google Maps rating before booking.
Hiranandani Hospital, Hill Side Avenue, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai

Genesis Sports Physiotherapy Clinic, Opera House
A standalone sports physiotherapy clinic led by Dr. Raina Ranney, who holds a BPTh from D.Y. Patil and an MSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne. Running injuries including shin splints, IT band syndrome and plantar fasciitis are listed as primary treatment categories. The clinic uses biomechanical analysis and gait correction protocols. One caveat: a significant portion of the online content about Genesis comes from SEO-produced pages rather than independent editorial coverage or verified patient reviews. The clinical credentials appear legitimate but we strongly recommend verifying current Google Maps reviews before booking.
Opera House, Mumbai

Delhi NCR

Sports Injury Centre, Safdarjung Hospital, Ansari Nagar, Delhi
The most comprehensively equipped public sports medicine facility in Delhi, and one of the most capable in the country. The Sports Injury Centre at VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital is a dedicated unit with a biomechanics lab, underwater treadmill, isokinetic testing system and a full physiotherapy and performance gym. The clinical team is large and senior: the centre is led by Dr. Deepak Joshi as Director, with over 35 faculty including sports medicine specialists, orthopaedic surgeons and physiotherapists. Runner’s knee is listed among treated conditions and return-to-sport care is part of the offering. The most significant practical advantage here is cost: as a government hospital the centre treats patients at government rates, making it by far the most accessible option on this list for runners without access to premium private care. The trade-off is typical of public hospital settings: appointment availability and wait times may not match a private clinic. Worth a direct call to understand the current intake process.
Sports Injury Centre, VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, Ansari Nagar West, New Delhi. Phone: 011-26769300

Delhi NCR has the strongest density of specialist sports rehabilitation options in the country, with facilities in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida serving a running community anchored by the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon.

AktivHealth, Vasant Vihar (Delhi) and Sector 49 (Gurugram)
The most explicitly runner-focused operation found across all five cities in this research. AktivHealth runs AktivGait, a dedicated running gait analysis programme that uses 3D motion capture and clinical assessment to identify biomechanical inefficiencies, injury risk factors and running economy issues. The programme explicitly references marathon training and serves runners from elite to social levels. The clinical team is led by Dr. Sumiran Passey, MD Sports Medicine with a FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine. AktivGait is particularly relevant for runners dealing with recurring injuries that standard physiotherapy has not resolved. Verify Google Maps rating directly before booking and confirm AktivGait is available at your preferred location. Phone: 011-71366777.
B-25/4, Ground Floor, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi | Sector 49, Gurugram

Shree Meenakshi Sports Medicine Clinic, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi
One of the highest-rated sports medicine clinics in Delhi NCR by verified review volume. Google rating: 4.8 stars from over 514 reviews, confirmed via aggregated Google data. The clinic takes a non-surgical, exercise-based approach to sports medicine, well-suited to the overuse injuries that make up the majority of running conditions. Runner-specific services and named specialist credentials should be confirmed directly before booking, but the review volume is the most credible independently verifiable signal of consistent outcomes found in Delhi NCR.
Shalimar Bagh, Delhi

House of Movement Excellence (H.O.M.E.), Saket, Delhi
Dr. Manvi Dhyani, a former Sports Authority of India physiotherapist with over 13 years of clinical experience, runs H.O.M.E. with a focus on return-to-sport programming and strength-based rehabilitation. Services include manual therapy, strength and conditioning, return-to-sport rehabilitation, ACL rehabilitation, clinical Pilates and ice bath recovery. The qualifications here are among the strongest of any private sports physiotherapy clinic in Delhi NCR. Google Maps rating should be verified directly before booking.
Saket, New Delhi

Bengaluru

Bengaluru has a serious running community, anchored by the TCS World 10K and the Bengaluru Marathon, and its sports rehabilitation options are hospital-system heavy. Standalone runner-focused clinics with documented gait analysis services are harder to find here than in Delhi.

SPARSH Hospital SPORTHO
Launched in 2019 as Karnataka’s first sports-dedicated medical centre, SPORTHO is SPARSH Hospital’s sports medicine arm. The multidisciplinary team includes Padmanaban Sekaran (specialist physiotherapist and movement therapist), Dr. Rudra Prasad and Dr. Harish Puranik, both arthroscopic surgeons with sports medicine specialisation, plus a sports psychologist, nutritionist and cardiologist within the broader programme. The depth and breadth of the team is the strongest of any Bengaluru facility found during this research. A specific running programme or gait analysis service was not documented in public-facing content; call ahead to confirm exactly what they offer for distance runners before booking.
SPARSH Hospital, Yeshwantpur and other Bengaluru locations

Fortis Hospital Sports Injury Clinic, CG Road
Fortis Hospital on Cunningham Road runs a dedicated sports injury clinic with a team of named orthopaedic consultants. The clinic handles arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction and cartilage preservation. Better suited to runners dealing with structural injuries that need orthopaedic input than to runners looking for stand-alone gait analysis or running rehabilitation. Verify Google Maps rating directly before booking.
Fortis Hospital, 14 Cunningham Road, Bengaluru

Hyderabad

Hyderabad’s sports medicine infrastructure is largely hospital-based and has expanded significantly since 2024. For runners, the most practically useful facility is the one with an active biomechanics lab.

Continental Hospitals Sports Medicine Department, Gachibowli
The most runner-relevant setup in Hyderabad. The sports medicine department, led by Dr. Arun Reddy Mallu (Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon), explicitly lists runner’s knee, stress fractures, tendonitis and shin splints among the conditions it treats. The facility includes a biomechanics and motion analysis lab alongside shockwave therapy and PRP. That combination of a named specialist, documented runner-injury coverage and on-site biomechanical diagnostic capability makes this the strongest independent Hyderabad entry. Phone: 040 6700 0000. Verify current Google Maps rating before booking.
Continental Hospitals, IT Park Road, Nanakramguda, Financial District, Hyderabad

Apollo Hospitals Centre of Excellence for Sports Injuries, Financial District
Launched in May 2026, Apollo’s dedicated sports injuries centre at its Financial District hospital is new enough that independent patient review data is limited. It brings together orthopaedic specialists, sports medicine doctors and physiotherapists under a single clinical pathway. Dr. Deepthi Nandan Reddy heads the orthopaedics department. The centre includes a biomechanics and motion analysis lab. Worth monitoring as reviews accumulate; confirm runner-specific services directly before booking.
Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills Road No. 72, Financial District, Hyderabad

Chennai

Chennai has a serious distance running community and one of India’s most credentialed sports science facilities. Access is more institutional than private-clinic, which means it operates differently from the other entries on this list.

Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science, Porur
The most credentialed sports medicine setup in Chennai. The Centre for Sports Science, led by Prof. Arumugam S at SRIHER, covers sports surgery, sports medicine, physiotherapy, biomechanics, biokinetics and sports nutrition in a single facility. Active institutional partnerships include Chennaiyin FC, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, the State Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and the International Squash Federation. The biomechanics and biokinetics services are significant for runners with complex overuse injuries. The SDAT-linked clinic at Nehru Stadium is staffed by the same team and may be more accessible for recreational runners than the main campus. Call ahead to understand their intake process for non-referred athletes.
Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, 1 Ramachandra Nagar, Porur, Chennai

When Should a Runner Seek Sports Rehabilitation Rather Than a General Physio?

Earlier than most runners do. The typical cycle is to rest when pain becomes bad, return when it fades, get re-injured three weeks later. Sports rehabilitation breaks that cycle by addressing the mechanical cause, not just the pain signal. Seek a sports rehab specialist specifically if:

  • You have had the same injury recur more than once
  • Your injury came on gradually during a training build rather than from a single incident
  • You have completed standard physiotherapy and returned to running only to be injured again
  • You are training for a specific race and need a structured, time-bound return-to-sport protocol
  • Your injury involves a tendon (Achilles, patellar, plantar fascia) since tendons respond poorly to passive treatment and need progressive loading managed by someone who understands training load

If you are experiencing acute pain after a specific incident, significant swelling, an audible pop at the time of injury or pain that affects normal walking, get a diagnosis from a doctor before any rehabilitation begins.

A reminder

The listings in this guide are based on publicly available information including published specialist credentials, documented services and patient review data gathered through web research. FatMarathoner.com has not independently assessed clinical outcomes or verified the current operational status of all facilities. Service availability changes. Always call ahead to confirm what a clinic offers for your specific injury and type of training before booking. This content does not constitute medical advice.

The bottom line: India’s running boom has grown faster than its sports rehabilitation infrastructure, and most recreational runners are still navigating the gap with general physio appointments that treat pain without addressing cause. The centres on this list are among the best available across the country’s five biggest marathon cities. But the most useful thing any runner can do is not wait until they are injured to find one. A single running gait assessment with a qualified sports physio costs less than a new pair of shoes and will almost certainly tell you something useful about why you keep getting hurt. Find the clinic before you need it.
