One common advice given to every person who wishes to keep his/her body fit is to eat healthy food. What if we ask you to ditch ‘healthy’ food items like oats and pulses and add ‘bad’ foods like cheese, potatoes and chocolates to your diet? To your surprise, there is a list of ‘bad’ foods that are actually good for the body. Let us have a look at some of those ‘bads’ foods from which you need not shy away anymore.
Eggs
Eggs, especially egg yolks have traditionally been criticized for their cholesterol and fat content. However, gradually the egg is being given the due importance and the unfair opinion about the food has changed. Egg yolks are actually packed with nutrients and are a great source of proteins. A lot of people don’t actually know that the body absorbs all the protein from egg whites only in the presence of the yolk.
Furthermore, eggs do not damage the cardiovascular system, as once believed. Nevertheless, this does not change the fact that an egg yolk does contain a significant amount of cholesterol. The trick here is to include an egg in your daily diet only if you are not consuming a lot of fat from other forms of sources like dairy or meat.
Potatoes
Potatoes have been regarded as a starchy food having a high glycemic index and little nutritional value. Contrary to the belief, potatoes are a rich source of Vitamin C, carbohydrates and also contains traces of potassium and magnesium. The trick here is to first bake the potato and then have it.
Potatoes can help keep blood pressure stabilized and reduces bloating. Furthermore, a properly cooked/baked potato increases the amount of resistant starch in the food.
Coffee
Do you feel lethargic throughout the day just because you refrain yourself from having coffee? What if we tell you that now there’s no stopping yourself from having a cup of coffee. Coffee can prove to be bad for the body only when you drink too much of it mixed with heaps of sugar and loads of cream. If you love coffee, and cannot resist yourself from drinking it, go for black coffee or stir it in skim milk with only a little sugar.
Dark Chocolates
Eating chocolate makes you happy, but worried about health issues? Well, the good news is that you can satiate your taste buds by having a dark chocolate. Dark chocolates are rich in flavonoids and antioxidant compounds that actually boosts the function of the brain. To maximize health benefits, it is advisable to choose chocolate with at least 65% cacao. Darker the chocolate, better flavonoids it contains!
Cheese
One common mistake people make is to avoid calcium-rich dairy foods in an attempt to cut down on calories. The truth is that since the body burns more fat when it gets calcium, eating low-fat yogurt, cheese and milk can help in weight loss.
Bananas
Bananas are known as carb-rich fruits and what sounds ‘bad’ is actually the ‘good’. According to researches, bananas are a rich source of potassium that can help in the regulation of blood pressure. Furthermore, bananas that are greener contain resistance starch, a type of carbohydrate that helps in keeping one slim.
What better can it get than giving a treat to your taste buds, and staying healthy at the same time!
